What IS Dry Ice Cleaning?
|
|
Dry Ice Blasting is the alternative. A blasting method using dry ice (CO2) pellets as blasting material. This extremely hard CO2 granulate, apprx. ricecorn sized and shaped is produced by injecting liquid CO2 gas with 17-20 bar pressure into a cylinder, where it expands at normal atmospheric pressure turning into fine CO2 snow. The snow is than compressed and extruded at pressures of up to 180 bar through a matrix, thus creating dry ice pellets. The temperature of dry ice pellets is -78°C or -106°F and has a special characteristic: With energy absorption (for example heat or impact) the ice converts from solid to gas, bypassing the liquid gas phase. This energy effect utilizes for its dry ice blasting method. The dry ice pellets stored in the hopper of the base unit are sucked via a venturi into a high volume / pressure airflow and then blasted through a jet nozzle blast gun onto surfaces and components.
